Mint refers to a number of species and their hybrids in the genus Mentha. Because their hybrids occur naturally, Mentha species are not clearly distinct, and the specific number of agreed-upon species varies.
Mints typically have a warm taste with a cool sensation afterwards. Minty flavor comes from a variety of compounds including menthol, pulegone, and R-carvone.
