Young coconuts come in green, yellow, or orange colors. These coconuts contain ample coconut water. Their meat resides on the inner wall of the drupe.
The contained coconut water is distinct from coconut milk. Coconut milk is coconut water combined with coconut solids (fat, protein) from mature coconuts. Coconut water contains no fat.
Young coconuts have meat that is translucent and tender. As coconuts age, this meat becomes tougher and drier. Young coconut meat is eaten as a tropical fruit.
