Satsumaimo Sweet Potato

December 29, 2012

The sweet potato, or camote, is a sweet tuberous root.  It is often confused with but distinct from a yam.

Satsumaimo is Japanese for sweet potato.

Specifically, the satsumaimo has pinker skin, but lighter flesh.  Rather than a pink or deep orange, the flesh of the satsumaimo is a pale yellow and tastes less sweet.
