Raspberries are a member of the genus Rubus. “Raspberry” actually refers to the fruit of multiple species within Rubus. This includes red, black, purple, and yellow/golden raspberries.
Commercially produced red raspberries come from a number of cultivars that tend to be R. idaeus and R. strigosus hybrids. Boysenberries, loganberries, and tayberries are also Rubus hybrids.
Raspberries have the highest dietary fiber of any whole food.
