Fennel is a narrow-leafed stalk vegetable related to celeriac and celery. The leaves are highly branched and even more threadlike than dill. Fennel’s taste is similar to anise and is often mislabeled as such.
Florence fennel has an enlarged stalk base that is eaten as a vegetable.
