Vanilla Planifolia Blossom

July 18, 2013

Vanilla planifolia is the primary vanilla species grown for vanilla flavoring because of its high vanillin content.

Like other orchids, the flowers of V. planifolia are edible, though this blossom would be difficult to actually consume.  The flower of V. planifolia only lasts 24 hours.
