Cubed Portobello Mushroom

Dutch artists Lernert and Sander cut a number of different food items into perfect cubes. The 98 cubes of fish, vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, and meats were arranged into a now-viral image for Dutch publication Volkskrant.

The portobello mushroom cube is cut into sections that allow a delicate glimpse into the internal structure of the gills (which are commonly discarded when prepared), stipe, and cap of the mature fruiting body. All parts are edible but offer varying degrees of satisfaction.
